Most of the Ideanists started their vacations. This means that the office is slipping into slight anarchy in a good way. Working from our terrace… publicly played music… and still hard core professionalism with our projects.
The chant used to be “location, location, location!”, meaning that how you use the display real-estate is the key to winning the UI game. Nowadays, you need to join the “transitions, transitions, transitions!” choir to even get into the game.
Forum Nokia has published a video to inspire and inform the mobile developers and designers about how fluidity + flow equals “fantastic”. The gist of the video is to show how with the emergence of touch UIs, transitions are no longer decorative elements in the UI. The way a UI component or view moves is as much a part of its character as any audio-visual (or tactile) qualities.
As for me, I love the way more UIs are becoming more “quasi-organic”. So I say “yea” for all UI effects that make my mobile more like a window to a parallel universe and less like Lotus Notes!
