If you work in the user experience industry you’ve probably seen the amazing and inspiring presentation of Johnny Lee at TED about using the technology of Nintendo Wii remote for something completely different.
Before the summer vacations I was approached by one talented developer named Tero Tarvainen. He had created something quite remarkable on Series 60 -platform. At this stage his creations are more of a technological demonstrations, but impressive anyway.
The head tracking has already been demonstrated by TAT in their UI concept video to give more life to the standard menu grid, but I’m sure that this technology could be used to create even better. Two immediate uses come to mind:
-Peeking outside the visible are of web site while zoomed in
-Zooming in on maps and web sites by looking closer to the mobile screen
The gesture tracking on the other hand brings the ability to have cursor (or several) on the (touch)screens of devices. And this opens up the possibility to utilize the paradigms used in the mouse&desktop environment to the mobile world. The question is: Do we want that?
Here are the videos from Tero:

Man this is neat!
That’s what I call innovative thinking and very interesting to see how this can be utilized in consumer life in the future!
