CASE: Blyk’s mobile web portal

Basics

The objective of the project was to utilize Blyk’s existing web look and feel in mobile design and to ensure a consistent experience in all devices in the portfolio. The project focused in design, implementation and hosting of Blyk’s WAP portal version 1.0 for the UK market.

There was a need for a well-working and aesthetic mobile portal which works nicely in all devices in the portfolio (about 60 devices). Our aim in this project was to design an excellent customer experience for Blyk’s mobile portal with optimal structure and fine tuning the elements with taking into account different browsers & screen sizes. The design decisions made in the project were all based on the technical specifications delivered by Blyk.

  • Sketching and prioritizing different UI concept alternatives
  • The specification of scope, main functionalities and structure
  • Site hierarchy
  • Page structure
  • Navigation hierarchy
  • Navigation design: the set of screen elements that allow the user to move through the information architecture.

4. UI design drafts

  • 1-3 alternative design drafts in order to select the final design. Delivered in .psd or/and .ia format.

5. UI prototype

  • The design ideas presented with HTML prototype.

6. Final design

  • Selected visualization is implemented to cover the whole portal. Delivered in .psd or .ai format.
7. Copy guideline

  • A brief guidance document to Blyk copy writers in order to create dedicated content.

8. XHTML & WML templates

  • The agreed portal structure was implemented with XHTML and WML templates

9. Mobile portal design guide (light documentation)

  • Layout of landing page and sub page with necessary measurements
  • Short description of elements used in a pages
  • Short description of styles (colours, fonts, pictures, links) etc. used in a page
  • Short description of navigation and link behaviour logic
  • List of categories portal is designed for and example of how it is adapted to different display widths
