We are currently looking for a Technology Principal to join our leadership team in London.

You’ve got a clean slate

While we have some opinion and some existing practices you’ll have the opportunity to design the offer, approach and team as you see fit which we think is kinda nice.

You’ll get to push really modern ways of working

Technology and technology practices continue to take great leaps forward. We’re trying to push our complete offer and approach and you’ll be able to champion and drive forward the technology approach as part of this.

You will be someone that seeks a modern approach to build and an environment of contemporary innovation, and enjoys getting to work on early stage work and designing the things you build, most often with greenfield code. You must be then comfortable with the ambiguity and challenge that creating these environments for new ways of working within corporate organisations presents. You will be a key influencer towards t he software, services, architectural patterns and ways of working that the next beta businesses will use to deliver outcomes.

You’ll join the leadership team

We’ve got a multi-disciplinary leadership team who together shape our future. You’ll be a part of this and able to input to the overall company strategy and culture.

This role would join our existing team of multi-disciplinary Principals, and wider leadership team, to mature this side of our offer and help further grow and embed an engineering team and culture into the studio. While also playing a key strategic role in growing the company: seeking the work you want to do, entering new clients and sectors, and later possibly new international markets.

Advance our build and go-to-market approach and team

We’re looking for someone who can take our existing approach and improve it to create something that blends your experience and industry best practice with our own smart thinkingandexperience.Y ouwillsetthetechnologystrategyforAL,definingthe practices ways of working and standards used. You will constantly research, refine and enhance the technologies, tools, methods and dev ops to deliver amazing customer experiences and new businesses to the market.

We’re seeking an inspiring leader to push, nudge and coach our technology team and broader studio to become even better. This comes through team management, coaching, and ongoing project feedback and critique.

Build our name in the (international) technology community

Our ongoing success will only be possible if we build a team of stellar technologists and engineers. Creating a renowned brand in the industry will be key to this. Principals should, either through their own activities, or encouraging the broader team, develop thought leadership content and talks to showcase our perspective and work.

Oversee projects

Our Principals oversee 1-3 projects depending on the size of project. The role the Principal plays is broad and includes leading the client relationship and building a close advisory relationship, providing direction for the team and project, managing the Director on the project (we have a distributed managed structure), and being close enough to the detail to challenge and raise standards, yet enough out of the day-to-day to spot risks and opportunities for this project and beyond.

Lead and challenge clients

If we don’t challenge our clients, no-one will. We need to advise, provoke and guide them. We need to help them understand what is required to (re-)launch successful products, and what this means for the broader business, e.g. from the perspective of their approach, people and governance.

You have

  • Demonstrable experience delivering technical projects from conception to delivery and through the full product lifecycle

  • At least 10 years+ experience working for significant scaled products or services in a senior technical leadership role. You may have been a hands-on engineer or come from a technical delivery background; we are flexible to explore different backgrounds and it’s more about how you have managed delivery and change

  • A comprehensive technical background and experience of a wide range of modern technologies, architecture and concepts. Your specific knowledge of a particular language isn’t as important as your grasp on the pros/cons and tradeoffs each one brings

  • Experience of technology renewal or digital transformation projects

  • Experience working with Agile, Lean and/or Continuous Delivery approaches and best practices, such as Continuous Integration, TDD, BDD, Infrastructure as Code etc

  • Contemporary attitude and approach to building innovative products and services

  • Experience of representing the technology perspective to stakeholders at senior management or board level

  • The ability to assimilate new technical domains quickly to identify possible solutions

  • Experience building a technology team.

  • Managing remote development teams 

  • Technology consulting experience.

  • Experience and an interest in design and product methodologies

  • BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus.
