Senior QA Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join our team in London and move us into automation.

At Idean we believe that great UX can change the world. It all starts with awesome people, carefully handpicked projects, and crafting a work environment that inspires brilliant, meaningful work.

Idean London has some really exciting news! We are joining forces with design consultancy Adaptive Lab. Since opening our London studio in 2017 we’ve been building a strong team of design experts that share our vision for bold design and impactful client outcomes. The leadership and talent at Adaptive Lab are exactly the visionary partners we’ve been looking for to take us to the next level in the UK and will expand our offer to include product and technology build and go-to-market delivery. You can read more about the news here.

More about the role

This is a unique opportunity to be part of this new cohort of engineers in the studio, working on a wide range of great projects. We advocate for creating new environments to work and behave differently than our clients currently do - what we call building beta businesses - and this means influencing very early technology, design and strategy decisions.

As a Senior QA Engineer you’ll be responsible for all aspects of testing, including implementing best practices, delivering thorough and reliable testing at speed, and ensuring quality code structures are met. You will also drive a shift to automated acceptance testing, influencing our team and clients to embed this into their processes and culture.

You’ll work across all stages of the product lifecycle: from inception to proof of concept, to full build and then launch in market. The scope of our work, technology stack, and sectors is also as varied, ranging from building entire beta businesses to creating brand new mobile apps, within the biggest players across the telecoms, banking, travel and utilities industries, amongst many others. You’ll also work closely with our broader team of Designers, Strategists, Developers, and other Technologists to get to a fantastic result.

You can

  • Develop, maintain and execute test plans and test cases for our products

  • Work very closely with a great mix of clients across multiple sectors

  • Work with a lot of different technologies. We don’t have a set stack, although we lean towards open source frameworks and cloud services that let us get stuff done quickly. We’ve recently done some awesome work with React, Node.js and Ruby on Rails

  • Deliver value to our clients as quickly as possible. In tech terms, this means we get stuff built and shipped and into customers hands as fast as we can. We’re not a team of perfectionists, and although we value good quality code highly, we’re a team of do-ers and shippers

  • Work within a multi-skilled technology team consisting of Frontend Developers, Backend Develops, and strategic Technologists. However, we build teams around projects and each project team is multi-disciplinary and made up of Strategists, Service Designers, Product Designers and Developers

  • Assist with our hiring effort and mentor more junior members of the growing QA team as we continue to scale

  • Spend time reflecting on the work we’re doing and how we’re doing it. As a Senior QA Engineer you’ll be an integral part of the development team and will help define “what good looks like” for the QA work we do. We’re an agile organisation with a strong culture of feedback and self-improvement and we’ll expect you to embrace and further shape this.

You have

  • Extensive experience in automation testing using Rspec/Capybara/Selenium

  • A strong view on testing and how to move quickly in a fast-paced iterative environment

  • Deep understanding of testing principles and a variety of testing techniques and methods

  • Previous experience testing on Ruby, JavaScript, and it’s frameworks

  • Experience working with continuous integration tools

  • Passion and curiosity for the web and technology. We want to push ourselves and we want to stay on the cutting edge. Infectious enthusiasm is a bonus!

  • A strong view on the correct way to do things and a wide variety of experience of best practice to draw on

  • Excellent communication skills and a want to work in a team. We’re a highly collaborative bunch and recognise that teams, not individuals, ship products. We’re all responsible for the quality of the code and the success of the project.

We offer

  • Generous and competitive salary (they're benchmarked and we're proud)

  • Discretionary team bonus scheme

  • Company pension contribution

  • Paid-for private healthcare packages to choose from

  • 25 days of holidays, along with the 8 days of bank holidays (with a couple extra available to you when you need and want them) Plus, additional Christmas closure to save these days for the rest of the year

  • Childcare support, including additional time off when you need to attend appointments and childcare vouchers

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Your preferred working tools

  • Flexible working programmes. Many of the team have other things that they are involved in and we're on a mission to design a place to work where this is encouraged and supported. There is no one model to fit all so feel free to talk to us about what you need

  • Inspiring career paths

  • Individual training budget for personal development (you'll have money to attend conferences, buy books, crash courses, or seek out some coaching, in addition to our company-wide activities and spend)

  • Opportunities to travel and work in other Idean studios if you fancy.

If this is the kind of gig and company you like the sound of we’d love to hear from you!
